Depression Therapy in Atlanta, GA

This is not how you expected your life to turn out. Your depression leaves you struggling to deal with everyday things. Each day you hope things will be different today than they were yesterday, but you can’t seem to shake that “tired all the time” feeling. You find yourself only doing the bare minimum just to get through the day leaving you feeling guilty, overwhelmed, and discouraged. You have lost interest in doing the things you once enjoyed.

You have started isolating yourself but it only increases the loneliness you feel. Your family and friends don’t understand depression and it’s becoming harder and harder to try and explain it to them. The crying spells come out of nowhere. Anger and sadness seem to be the only thing keeping you company these days. You’re plagued with thoughts of “I’m not a good enough [fill in the blank]”.

You are ready for a real change! Depression Therapy in Atlanta can help you get there!

You’re desperate to find something that helps your depression. Medication didn’t work; going to the gym left you feeling even more tired; if only you had the energy to do the “self-care”, but you can’t even remember what you once enjoyed anyway, so you sink further into despair. It’s the only place that feels familiar these days. You feel like giving up. Everything is hard. You need help but how do you find someone who can really understand you; someone who can really help you with your depression? The thought of calling yet another therapist creates a heavy feeling before you even pick up the phone, but you need relief!

Hi! My name is Kristy, Depression therapist in Atlanta and I Can Help!

For over 15 years, I have been helping individual clients who are overwhelmed and struggling with daily life get to the “meat and potatoes” of their depression. We talk about moments that have come and gone, allowing you to work out unresolved feelings that may be leading to your depression. Clients are able to vent BIG FEELINGS that they can’t say anywhere else in a safe environment. We explore various ways to view challenges and process unresolved emotions to help release the “pressure valve” on the intensity of how you feel.

I guide and support clients by learning how to talk to those they are closest to differently to help others understand your struggle with depression and help you feel less isolated and more understood. Believe it or not, even depression has triggers. There are things that will help you feel better and triggers that lead to greater heaviness. Part of the process will be to find the patterns of what decreases the intensity of depression while releasing what triggers it. Once we have pinpointed the triggers that are driving your depression, I’ll guide you through an emotionally corrective experience using a combination of therapy techniques that, with many of my clients, brings immediate relief.

My work with clients also helps to shift thinking patterns around the triggers that may be contributing to your depression. My clients find they have an increased capacity to control the intensity of their emotions once they understand what’s driving them. Sadness and despair are replaced with serenity and peace.

I have knowledge and training in body-based therapies to help your body learn to release the heaviness of depression. Through weekly support, my clients typically start seeing changes within 8 weeks after starting therapy, and oftentimes sooner.

Frequently Asked Questions about Depression Therapy in Atlanta, GA

I know depression can make it hard to get out of bed, focus, and get things done. It can have you feeling irritable and sad for much of the day. I am here to help!

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, has been shown to be the most effective in treating depression. It involved talking about things to examine behavior or thought patterns that may be driving your emotions. By changing those thought patterns or behaviors we can shift your emotions to help you feel better.

  • Sessions typically last between 45 and 50 minutes in length.

  • You will be in therapy for longer if you are not attending weekly therapy sessions! You will see improvements in your life faster and be able to maintain change longer!

From tracking outcomes, I know that clients who attend weekly sessions are getting better faster. Research has also found that weekly therapy sessions bring improvement faster. Doing healing work at the level that will sustain long-term change takes time. It’s a commitment. Clients who invest time get better faster and experience less relapse into old patterns. Faster results with less relapse mean you will spend less time and money on therapy overall.

  • There are a lot of factors that contribute to the length of therapy, so it is difficult to predict until we begin working together. If we decide we’re a good fit following that initial meeting, we’ll check in on progress every single week.

Typically, clients I work with start seeing changes after 6 weeks of weekly sessions. At the end of 12 weeks, we’ll evaluate if we’re reaching our goals. Often, the challenges that initiated their search for a therapist have been resolved after 12 weeks, if not sooner. All have been pleased with their progress and decided to continue making changes in their lives with new goals.

The decision to end our work together will be a collaborative decision based on what you feel needs to change in your life and the changes I see happening for you.

  • I have partnered with Mentaya to help you save money on therapy. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will handle everything with insurance to make sure you get your money back. They only charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year. You can read more about how Mentaya works to help you reduce the cost of therapy here.

  • Online! No need to fight Atlanta traffic to get to a therapist’s office anymore. I am right here on your computer screen! As long as you are physically located in Georgia at the time of the session and in a place where you can have privacy, you get to make that “near me” location wherever is most convenient for you.

  • This has rarely happened, but if we do not see some improvement after a month of working together, we will change our approach to ensure we’re really targeting the things we need to target. If we’re still not seeing any improvement, we want to look at potentially referring you to another therapist who would be a better fit for you, a parenting coach, or an outside resource.

  • I know it can feel scary to call a therapist, and you might still have questions. I’ll make it easy. We’ll spend 15 minutes on the phone, and I’ll let you know how or if I can help. If I am not the right person, I’ll do my best to get you to the right person. Click here to contact me today.
